Let’s get this party started.

OK, I think I’m well enough to officially start Christmas now. I just went out to the supermarket for more paracetamol and some fresh fruit and I can tell I’m not in particularly good shape. My head is foggy, I have a sore chest and I’m sweating. However, I’ve stopped throwing up and my crucifying headache has at last departed, that being the main thing that was keeping me pinned to the bed. So even though I had to cancel all my social things, I can officially start having a Xmas holiday now and I haven’t missed anything that can’t be rescheduled. Not being able to take children’s gifts to the family today was the most annoying thing because they do need to be there before the 25th but I am thinking of solving the problem by sending a courier, maybe I can book one for Monday or Tuesday.

My plans for this festive season revolve around all the things that I don’t get to do enough of because I’m at work all the time. This is not going to be a holiday in which I go out of my way to score Achievement points, they can just happen naturally, as they may. It is going to be a holiday in which I get to do things that I enjoy and can rarely do enough, or any, of because I’m either at work or if I’m not at work my brain is too fried to be able to concentrate. So here’s what we have coming up over the next two weeks:

  • Gym. The minute this fever leaves me and my chest stops hurting I will be straight back there. Gym was one of the major ambitions I had for this holiday. I wanted to go every day and that won’t happen now I have flu to recover from but I can be patient, I will have to be. I can just wait until I’m better and then go.
  • Video gaming. Gaming is really important to me, I don’t get to do enough of it. On my list for this festive season, on the PC: World of Warcraft; Skyrim; Dragon Age II (before I even consider buying Dragon Age Inquisition, that can just wait until I’ve completed all the other games); Metro 2033; Bioshock Infinite; The Secret World; Alien Isolation; Sims 3 (because I have unexplored expansion packs, even though I know from bitter experience that Sims is just one long episode of trying to find workarounds for its many bugs). On the Xbox: GTA San Andreas; GTA V; Dead Island; World of Tanks; South Park – The Stick of Truth; Dark Souls; Halo 4. I also wouldn’t mind playing Batman: Arkham City and Dark Souls II on the Xbox but I guess those can wait for 2015 as well. So as you can see, that is 15 games altogether, and I only have 14 days off work.
  • Knitting. I have almost exactly as many knitting projects as I do video games, and in a similar state of completion.
  • Reading. I have a lot of books that I am excited about and want to spend a little time with, ranging from Serious Literature to the Viz annual.
  • Food. I am making traditional Christmas dinner at home this year for probably only the second time in my entire life and I am going to try to eat at home more in general.

So that’s me, all set. I may still have flu but I am not going to let that stop me. Tonight’s entertainment is World of Warcraft because it is easy and I don’t have to learn how to play, which is good if your brain is all congested, and tonight’s dinner, the first meal I’ve eaten since Wednesday, is hot sausage rolls with salad (watercress and tomatoes) and some red onion chutney, followed by an apple and some tangerines.

Happy Christmas, folks. 1 Xmas point.

Is there anything nicer than Thunder Bluff at sunrise? I think not.

I woke up at 3am and couldn’t get back to sleep, so what are you gonna do?

I must confess I am not scoring a lot of points at the moment. I am dieting, which is good. The thing I like about dieting is that it is not really that hard, you just eat less. It’s not a massive effort or anything.

I’m still reading and have nearly finished Lionel Asbo.

Dating wise, things are a bit crummy. Marcel and I are still getting on well but we have run into a whole month of conflicting diary schedules. He’s travelling, then I’m out of town. I think he’s on a plane to the US right about now. It was my mom’s birthday one weekend, then the next week he went to France to visit his mom. I haven’t seen him for about 3 weeks and it could be another fortnight before we’re next in London at the same time. I wouldn’t mind this too much but he is also not being very communicative and it makes me feel like I might as well be single. I’m not getting any sex and when I get lonely I think about JC which is not really helpful for anyone.

Meh. My house is messy and I can’t be arsed to go to the gym and I have been awake since 3am. So that’s why I’m going to Azeroth.

If we have any Warcrafters in the audience, here’s what I’m doing. Everyone else, there’s a nice tune at the end.

  • That’s obviously my death knight that you see there. I have 7 main characters, four of which are level 90 and the remainder are 87. So this DK is 87 and it’s her turn to be levelled up.
  • I also have four other junior characters because I wanted one of every class. So when I get bored doing all the Pandaria quests, there’s an alternative. My level 39 druid is spending a lot of time doing pet battles and I am amazed how much xp you get for doing that, she hasn’t any time to do any quests before she has become too high a level for each zone.
  • I’m glad I have some lower level characters also because the AH is flooded with Pandaria crafting materials at rock bottom prices and you can actually charge more for things like rune cloth and fel iron than you can for the higher level stuff. This is a relevant concern because the cost of flying training is fucking ridiculous and as noted, I have a lot of characters who all have to be paid for. My shadow priest just hit 90 and she’s not getting any flying training until I’ve made 9k on the AH.
  • All my characters belong to my guild, which is entirely populated by me. OK, me and a 12th character, a low level goblin, which is owned by my ex boyfriend, who I occasionally call on for those guild admin tasks where you need more than one account. As my entire guild is basically just me solo-ing and not even doing any dungeons, it pleases me greatly to report that it is a level 8 guild.
  • I am moderately sick of growing vegetables at Halfhill, yet I cannot stop.

And now for some music. Here’s Big Youth, who knows what the girls want. Lord have mercy.

Big Youth: Natty Dread She Want

More mountains in the early morning sun:

Right, I need to quickly review the status of TLYW, let’s do that now. I can use those handy Categories on the right there to assess my progress and pick up two or three Achievement points as necessary.

I’ve been doing well on this front. I’ve been to some exhibitions and seen some nice architecture that I have to tell you about. We’ll correct that situation very soon.

If gaming counts as Art then I spent much of the weekend playing World of Warcraft. I am loving the Pandaria expansion, it looks great. Beautiful scenery really counts for a lot with me, I want to feel like I’ve stepped in to a painting.

I’d forgotten we even had this category, how remiss of me. I am currently listening to the audio book of Can You Forgive Her? by epic 19th century novelist Anthony Trollope. I love his novels, so funny and full of gossip and human interest stories.

Meh. I scored one point for going to class. I really need to do some homework. Really need to.

I should mix some. I was thrilled when I was at a US airport recently and found that the duty free shop stocked Jack Daniels Honey Liqueur, which is unavailable in the UK.

Shocking progress. I went to about six classes in one week and then did not return. The state of my so called exercise regime is a disgrace.

Surprisingly I did take some action here recently and need to talk to my mortgage lender again as the next step. I also need to start budgeting like a serious grown up. I am going to start taking an interest in personal finance blogs, there might be a Flylady equivalent.

Not doing too badly. Seeing my sister. There’s a gift that I need to finish making for her, I need to block out some time to do that. Dates do not count as friends, ha ha.

I saw my dentist again recently and now my lower jaw has three new teeth screwed in nice and tight. So 1 Health point for that appointment. It was at 8.15 in the morning on a Saturday which is a killer if you were out all night and have not slept. Anyway. My dentist is not all that happy with me at the moment because I am not flossing all that religiously and I need to get back on it without delay. Gloria. I am talking to you.

Miscellaneous (code for ‘Dating’)

My goodness. I have really made a big effort lately to cut it out and stay at home more (this has merely resulted in a lot of Warcraft being played, to my dismay). Anyway, despite my cutting back I have still managed to go out once or twice and allow a couple of upcoming dates to appear in diary. News in brief as follows.

  • Blondie. This is our handsome, successful entrepreneur. He seems busy (I am okay with this, I am too). At first I thought he wasn’t into me but it seems like he is still interested so we are discussing dates and venues for a second date. I do like it when someone makes it to a second date.
  • I went on a first date with a guy who we will call Action Man. He is a very dynamic individual. Very sporty. It was a very well organised date. He chose a restaurant and booked a table there instead of meeting up and then vaguely going ‘I wonder if there are any pubs around’ which is what most people do. He’s quite talkative. Very strong personality. At the end of the night he kissed me with purpose. He’s just arrived on the internet dating scene. This date was a couple of days ago and we haven’t texted or messaged each other yet. I am sort of waiting to see what happens. He wasn’t in the least bit intimidated by me and this is quite rare. He was very confident. We’ll see. He might have dated several other people by now.

Other than that, I have one or two first dates lined up, as always. But my diary is less full than usual, which is a good thing.

I am looking for it. I really could do with dropping ten pounds if I am going to date sporty guys.

Reclaiming The Home

It’s not in awful shape. I scored 1 Housework point today.

You know why Salad gets its own category? Because that is what you are supposed to eat. Not Pot Noodles and the occasional onion bagel. Nil points.

Nil points because I fail to set aside time for it. I could do everything I want to do if I planned my time better. I am going to start having set nights for doing things.

Three points, must try harder.

Mists of Pandaria

Woo hoo! Blizzcon 2011 has just happened (wish I had been there, I went to one a few years ago and it was AWESOME). At Blizzcon, Blizzard announced the 2012 expansion pack for World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria.

O god o god I am so excited. Here is the trailer. Look at the audience screaming. I would have screamed too, if I had been there. I fucking love Blizzcon, it is like a rock concert for gamers.

Here is a thorough preview of Mists of Pandaria, courtesy of PikiGeek. Highlights:

Mists of Pandaria was so far along in production that Blizzard actually had the game in playable form on the showroom floor.

Yay! That means it will be released soon!! Or at least, nearer the beginning of 2012 than the end.

new eleventh class being added with the expansion: the monk

The overall feel of the Pandaren starter zone is a lot more relaxed and non-threatening than, say, the dark and brooding violence of the worgen zone …. Instead, the focus is on the experience and exploration, elements that have arguably been lost in World of Warcraft over the last few years.

This is music to my ears. I am a dedicated solo player and I am all about experience and exploration. I don’t care about killing the Lich King or whoever, I just want to fly around by myself and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

So happy. This sounds great. I really did not like the Cataclysm expansion and found it hard to forgive Blizz for the ridiculously inflated gear stats, the uni-directional, linear quest chains and the endless cut scenes. It has been a very difficult expansion to get along with, if you play like I do (I not only solo, I have dozens of characters, so I need a lot of free-form activity and quest variety so as to avoid repetition). I am really hoping that Mists of Pandaria is going to give me back the game I love.

Lots of technical details about MoP here, at mmochampion. Five new levelling zones. New PVE scenarios – you don’t need the typical tank/heal/dps setup, you will just be able to enter and play your role no matter what it is (this sounds good to me, might make me more interested in groups). More quest choices, and a lot less linear (yay!).

Bring it on, Blizz. I am on the edge of my seat now, waiting for a release date.
